Creating in depth customer avatars are what marketing companies & clients regularly fail to do. However, taking this crucial step will ensure you reach 300% ROAS, by being able to effectively understand your prospective customers needs.
In this blog article, we will take you through the crucial step of creating your buying persona.
Even at global marketing companies, a buying persona is typically half a page long, and may include gender, income, age and that’s about it.
At Social Karma, and what all other marketing agencies should do, we go through a length of process of first conducting a market research report, and then working on our customer avatars.
Why is this step so important?
- Create powerful content that speaks to the customer
- Higher converting pages with better copywriting
- Increased ROI with paid ad targeting
- Finding product to market fit
In this article we will run you through the process + a bonus step we’ve figured out along the way.
Step 1: Buyer Persona Worksheet
Our first step is to fill out the Buying Persona Worksheet.
This sheet goes beyond demographic profile, looking into each avatars typical day, goals & challenges, decision-making & search, and their interests.
Once completed, you will have the information needed to begin the next two steps + targeting information to be used on Facebook & Google.
Top tip: You can create this from scratch, but it is much easier to find someone you know that fits your buying persona. This is either you, or someone you have already have as friends on social media.
Step 2: Empathy Map
This next step is best done in groups.
You will want to fill out these parts in the following orders:
1. See
2. Hear
3. Think & Feel
4. Say & Do
5. Pain
6. Gain
This step will allow you to truly get into the head of your customer avatar.
By putting yourself into their shoes, the ability to produce quality ads and content is enabled.
Step 3: Hero’s/Heroine’s Journey
Stories are how people make sense of the world around them.
In each person’s life, they are their own hero/heroine.
It’s during these step, where the work you did before is put into a story.
All stories have the same approach (think Lord of the Rings), except in this, you’re trying to write out a person’s “dream” story.
What are they trying to achieve, and what will it take to get there.
Bonus Step: Vision Board
Up to this point, you’ve been doing alot of writing.
Now it’s time to get visual.
You will want to create a collage of your buyer’s goal or what is better known as a vision board.
This is the part to have fun. Use the work you did before, and create a visual of what this person’s dream life is.
You may also think about making one for yourself. Visualizing your goals makes manifestation possible 🙂
All done!
This covers the step of Customer Avatars.
Next up we will cover e-mail writing. E-mail?! Yes, e-mail. This is often the most overlooked (yet effectuve) marketing medium today.
